Red, Blue, and Boom!

Happy 250th birthday! (Which was actually July 2nd 1776). So happy 4th of July!

The berries provide the red and blue. The sparkling wine and ice provide the white visual space.

Serve this ICY cold with your hot July barbecue!

EQUIPMENT: large pitcher, glass tumblers, American flag garnishes, swizzle sticks

Ingredients

  • 1 cup quality vodka*

  • 12 ripe strawberries

  • 20 blueberries

  • 6 tablespoons freshly squeezed Meyer lemon juice

  • 2 tablespoons honey

  • 2 tablespoons warm water

  • 1 cup sparkling water

  • pinch sea salt

  • 2 cups crushed cubes

Directions

  • Chill 2 glass tumblers in freezer.
  • Stir honey and warm water together until smooth.
  • Gently mash strawberries in a pitcher.
  • Add vodka, Meyer lemon juice and honey mixture.
  • Add sea salt. Stir well.
  • Fill tumblers with crushed ice. Poor drink mixture over.
  • Divide the whole blueberries among the glasses and stir gently.
  • Add ¼ cup sparkling water to each glass.
  • Place swizzle sticks in each. Garnish with flags.
  • Serve immediately.

Notes

  • *To make the non-alcoholic mocktail version, replace the 1 cup vodka with:
    3/4 cup coconut water
    1/4 cup additional sparkling water
